By creating an account or using the ello8 service, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.

1. The service

ello8 is a messaging platform that delivers short text messages to paired physical devices over the internet. The service includes the web application at ello8.com, the associated API, and any physical hardware running official ello8 firmware.

2. Not for emergency use

ello8 is not a safety or emergency communication system. Do not rely on ello8 to send or receive urgent, time-sensitive, or emergency messages. The service is designed for casual, low-stakes communication only. If you need to reach someone in an emergency, use a phone, SMS, or other reliable communication service.

3. No guarantee of delivery or timing

ello8 does not guarantee that any message will be delivered, displayed, or delivered within any particular timeframe. Message delivery depends on factors including device connectivity, server availability, and network conditions, none of which ello8 controls absolutely. Messages may be delayed, missed, or lost.

4. Data we collect

To provide the service, ello8 collects and stores the following information:

  • Account information: your email address and username, provided at registration.
  • Message content: the text of messages you create, including messages sent to friends.
  • Device information: MAC addresses of paired devices and firmware version.
  • IP addresses: collected at login, registration, and message submission for rate limiting and abuse prevention. Not shared externally.
  • Session data: a session token stored as a cookie to keep you signed in.
  • Usage data: timestamps of device check-ins and last contact dates.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties except as required by law. Email addresses may be used to send infrequent product updates if you opted in at registration; you can change this at any time from your account settings.

5. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. You agree not to use ello8 to send content that is illegal, harassing, threatening, or otherwise harmful. We reserve the right to remove content or suspend accounts that violate these terms without notice.

In cases of abuse, we may also restrict access by IP address. Be aware that an IP ban may affect other users sharing the same network connection or household. No refunds for purchased hardware will be given due to account bans.

6. Age requirement

You must be at least 13 years old to use ello8. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

7. Service availability

ello8 is provided as-is. We make no warranty that the service will be available at any given time, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose. The service may be modified, interrupted, or discontinued at any time with or without notice.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ello8 and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of or inability to use the service, including but not limited to missed messages, device malfunctions, or data loss.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update.
